Sunday was Mid-Autumn Festival. On Monday we discussed what the festival is.
Siena: It's a time for gathering with families.
Arwyn: And if you can't gather together with your family, like say you live far away from them, you can look up at the moon and think about your family.
Griff: And people eat mooncakes, because it's also Mooncake Festival.
Aubrey: And people carry lanterns. Because it's also Lantern Festival.
We decided to make lanterns. Ms Leah showed us a video about how to make them.
She asked us to watch and listen very carefully as we would need to follow the instructions independently.
We watched the video quite a few times. When we were ready to start making the lantern, we gathered our materials and began. Sometimes we made mistakes and had to begin again, but in the end we had all made a lovely lantern.
They are now hanging outside the classroom if you want to check them out!
Also in celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival, we cut out paper mooncakes. Inside we wrote a wish for someone we care about. Here is what we wrote:
Lucy: I wish Grace was better.
Emanie: I wish I cannot cry when my mom goes.
Nora: I wish the children in Africa would be better. And India.
Frankie: I wish Anri in Japan could be good.
Aubrey: I wish that my cat can get skinny.
Arwyn: I wish my mom would be happy when she gets home.
Siena: I wish Shotaro's arm gets better. I wish my dad's company is a big hit.
Johnny: I hope my mom's leg heals.
Claire: I wish for my mom a new bag.
Griff: I wish my friends would never get sick and never die.
Adam: I wish my brother is better.
Teddy: I wish Adam's tooth gets better.
Shotaro: I wish Pieter was back and Emma.
