For Math Day we decided to make our own boardgames that we could play with our Grade 4 buddies this week. Before we began, we talked about what a Grade 4 student might be able to do in Math.
Aubrey: I think they can add.
Johnny: They can probably add even difficult numbers.
Frankie: And they can probably take away.
Siena: I think they can also do times.
Pieter: And divide. They can divide.
Griff: They probably know how to do fractions.
Pieter: And algebra. I think they can do algebra.
Arwyn: My sister does algebra with my mom.
Teddy: And add numbers with letters and things.
We made a list of things we thought they might be able to do, and using it created our boardgames for our buddies. Then we made a version with questions we were comfortable asking.
When Ms Rehu came in to visit us on Math Day, we asked her what the Grade 4 students were learning and then went back to our boardgames and revised them based on what we found out.
Today we played our boardgames with our buddies. It was great fun!
