Griff: Do inventors use their imagination?
Earlier in the week, we decided to read The Boy Who Invented TV , the story of Philo Farnsworth to find out.
Yesterday when students came in they started talking about Philo Farnsworth and his invention again. During our class meeting, they shared what they would like to invent so we decided to get our ideas down on paper.
Here is some of our work:
Emma: This is a robot dog. If you press the red button, it might go crazy. But the other two ones you can press, because the yellow one goes for normal. It goes back. The green one goes a bit normal.
If you walk your dog, you use a string. If you want your dog to fly, you press a button under its tail and it flies.
Pieter: This is a special box. You open the box and all these robots come out. You can hop on them because they are transforming. If you hop on the box piggy, you can fly to outer space. And the two here are Hairy and Not Hairy. And you can surf on the box piggy. And when you are done, they go back in the box.
Aubrey: This is a remote control robot. If you are hungry or something, then you can speak into the remote control and it will bring you what you want.
The second one is a button and the door opens. You don't have to lock or unlock it.
Frankie: If you press something on the TV, then something will come out. And the picture, there's one baby pressing something and there's a kid came out. Then the baby went accidentally inside the TV and the baby went into a Minecraft World.
There's a huge explosion and one person died from a rock falling down. Some jets go and put some rocks down to the land. And there's a tornado. And then it's over. And then one cloud came.
Shotaro: It's a TV and it has a lot of wires. There are two wires connecting at the top. And the top wire sends electricity to the bottom wire. And if you put two more electric wires on the side then it will come out of the TV. And if you tell something it will give you what you asked for.
The rest of us did not get a chance to explain our inventions yesterday, but here are our drawings:
Arwyn's idea is a TV that can show any of your ideas. It then brings you into the TV and you become one of the characters. When you want to leave you click your fingers and it brings you into a different portal and back home.
1. She's watching TV.
2. She is in a candy land with lollipop trees and flying unicorns. She says, "This is weird! Oh my gosh, what has happened?"
3. She is put up the top of a tall tower. "Wow, it's beautiful up here."
4. She clicks her fingers and is back at home. "I'm glad it's over. Okay, it's time to go. It's over. Great."
